community media – you had me from hello

As a student of communications, digital media, and documentary, I am presently writing my dissertation on the influence of a global media industry on the local media programs they support.

My experience in this field has spanned over the past decade and while I have frequently ventured off in other directions, I keep coming back to my first love – grassroots/DIY/collaborative/independent/glocal community media in all its complicated, comedic, transient and powerful manifestations.

Out of curiosity and the result of my research,  I am launching this blog to explore community media that is translated to the digital form in all its various forms. That means media projects that utilize digital technology to create and maintain community. So, over the process of writing this seemingly endless dissertation project, I will discuss the politics of community media both locally and globally.
